The CDFL Elite lost a tough, hard hitting football game to the combined teams of the Mill City Maulers, New England Hawks and Lowell Noreasters of the Metro Division of the NEFL. It was a surprise match-up to say the least, as 24 CDFL players made the 4 hour trip to face a team of 60 triple AAA level semi-pro players. The game opened with 2 quick scores by the Mass. team before Anthony Carillo hit Willie Calhoun with a 24 yard touchdown pass in the second quarter to bring the score to 14 -7 . Ty Landrum returned the opening second half kick-off 83 yards to close the margin to 14-13 . Following a Mass. score, Anthony Carillo hit wide-out Nick Perez on a quick slant ,which Nick motored into a 42 yard TD, making the score 21-19 . Mass answered in the fourth quarter with 10 points but the CDFL closed out the scoring with another kick-off return for a TD by Ty Landrum and a 2 point catch by Malcolm Lee.
Defensively the Elite were lead by linebacker Jarid Valenti with 8 tackles and an interception. Safety Andre Mallard also had a key interception. David Telesco played outstanding at linebacker with 6 tackles. Terrell Burnett, who had a punt return called back, answered on defense with big hits throughout the game. Mike Muise anchored the defensive line with 6 tackles and played ironman football on both sides off the line all day. Ryan Jones, Lawrence Coe and Olsen St. Louis battled on both the offensive and defensive lines against large fronts. Ty Landrum senior added experience to match the opponents and gave the CDFL elite on-field leadership throughout the game.
The next game for the CDFL is set as part of the Gridiron Elite winter Tournament, for Sunday 11/8/09 at home ,6 pm start. Practice will take place on Thursday evening at 8 :45 pm and is open to the public.
